The Buyer
Covid-19 has played a big part in our lives in some unusual ways. It may be a reason we’ve pushed ourselves to grow and build a bigger and better business. By looking at ways to change our business model just to keep it alive, we were able to look past ourselves and see how we could use our business to help others. 2020 has given us some great teaching moments for our daughter, showing her how we can persevere through hardship and embrace change with grace.
When the state of CO ordered all non essential businesses to close, we shut the doors on ArtShop Coffee (our art studio and coffee shop in Littleton) and were devastated by the feelings of loss. ArtShop Coffee was a huge part of our lives and we were not going to let anything stop us from realizing our dream. As we tried to recover from this unexpected blow, we did a 180 and immediately began creating a network marketing company to keep the brand alive without needing a physical location.
However, shortly after we started the test our craft paint manufacturers were not able to fulfill our orders and our artist partners were also struggling to find materials, so they could not fulfill our orders either. Orders that were fulfilled were getting hung up or lost during the shipping process. Because CV-19 affected so many people in ways we did not anticipate, we decided to end our trial and wait until the supply chains were functioning at full capacity again.
Luckily, I was hired by Best Version Media (BVM) as a Publisher to launch the Meet Your Conifer Neighbors magazine. Because I have years of sales experience in print and digital advertising, it was a perfect fit. This position allowed us to move back to our favorite mountain community and work from home. I plan to work with BVM as the Publisher for multiple mountain community magazines so that we have a predictable household income.
Joe, my husband, was able to quickly switch gears from managing the operations of ArtShop to handling all order fulfillment for our smaller online stores (HighVibe Gifts, Special Day Gift Baskets and Horse & Hen) that we’ll be advertising on my magazines.
